Who owns a price change across stores and marketplaces?

A price change for a campaign sounds simple: one new price, one start time. In practice it touches several systems and several teams, and the change is only complete when every channel shows the right offer at the right time.

One offer, several systems

The same offer can need to change in several places at once: the commerce platform behind your own store, product feeds for shopping channels, each marketplace account, and sometimes promotional content or banners that mention the price.

Each system has its own way of handling prices and promotions, its own processing time and its own rules. Platform-specific details change over time, so check them against each platform’s current requirements before relying on them for a campaign.

Confirm which team changes what

Problems often start when everyone assumes someone else is making a particular change. A short, written handover for each campaign avoids that.

  • Own store Who updates the price or promotion in the commerce platform.
  • Product feeds Who confirms that feeds pick up the new price and are processed in time.
  • Marketplace accounts Who changes the offer in each account, and how promotions are set up there.
  • Content Who updates any page, banner or copy that mentions the price.
  • Approval Who signs off the final prices, and who can approve a late change.

Check the effective time and exceptions

A price change has a start time and often an end time. Confirm that each system will apply the change when expected, including time zones, and how long each one takes to show it.

Then check the exceptions: products excluded from the campaign, variants priced differently, bundles, and any products where a marketplace or feed handles the price differently. A mismatch can mean very different things depending on the channel and the product, from a minor display issue to a pricing error customers can act on, so agree in advance which mismatches need immediate action.

Escalate before the launch window closes

Agree a time before launch by which every change should be confirmed, and who to contact if one is not. If a channel cannot be ready in time, decide early whether to delay the change there, launch without that channel, or accept the risk.

The aim is that by the time the campaign starts, every team knows its part is done, and anyone who spots a problem knows exactly whom to tell.

Feeds, listings and marketplace management with clear owners for every change.
